How I got myself into Blogging...
I wanted to write this post because of a few little things itching at the back of my head ever since I decided to embark on this little journey.
I started my blog senior year of high school because I had a lot of free time that I didn’t know what to do with. I hated (and still hate) having nothing to do, and typically (especially when I was younger) would go shopping instead of investing my time into something meaningful or lasting. I have lived in Berkeley my entire life, and from what I’ve noticed I wouldn’t say that many people care about their appearance here, which is ok… but I've realized that I am not gonna find a lot of people interested in the same thing I am. However, right across the Bay Bridge in the city of San Francisco, it’s a whole different story.
I follow many bloggers in SF that I am fond of. I enjoy seeing little glimpses of their outfit and day and find myself, more than I want to admit, scrolling through their instagrams and or blog posts looking for little things I can relate to or new outfits they have put together for a little inspiration. One thing I have found SF and Berkeley have in common is the love for boba, which I happen to love as well! Everyday I witness people in Berkeley walking down the street sipping out every last one of their little black balls from the bottom of their cup. Recently I have found that one particular blogger, @wannabefashionblogger, who lives in SF, frequently gets boba from Boba Guys. I have probably been to 20+ boba shops in my life, but have never had one that even compares to Boba Guys. Now, I know, I'm talking about boba when I’ve been talking about fashion and lifestyle blogs, but the reason I bring this up is because of the little small effects her posts have had on me. I have been able to relate with her posts which I find to be the most intriguing and is why I keep going back. From this, I value the fact that you can apply this to different aspects of life whether its food, fashion, people, music... honestly, anything! (If you have a chance, @wannabefashionblogger does a great job at finding small things to connect with, I just happen to highlight Boba Guys because she posts about it frequently. :)
Turning to the side of fashion, I have personally always been interested in fashion and have thought about might wanting to work in some kind of business/fashion field when I am older. So I decided to start documenting my outfits, just to see if, number one I would like it, and number two if I would get anything out of it.
So... blogging quickly became apart of my weekly routine- taking pictures, editing them, writing a blog post, and posting on instagram. As some of you know, I rock climb at Bridges Rock Gym which is also one of my favorite things to do. Just like rock climbing, this has become one of my you could say, extra curricular activities and or something that can easily take my mind of the stress of school. The other reason why I started blogging was for my writing. I do not consider myself a satisfactory writer AT ALL. In fact, I think I lack many writing skills that most people have. However, I realized that writing is a skill I am going to be using my entire life, so why not become good at it. I get really embarrassed when other people read my writing (I only let Una read my essays in high school), but I figured, the only way to get better, well, is to write. So embarrassed or not, I started posting not only photos, but short paragraphs about what I was wearing, where I got it from, how I styled it, and why I chose to buy it. This was a way to force myself to write more. I know that my posts are mainly photos and just a little paragraph or two about what the outfit is about or what’s been going on in my week, but it is a way for me to keep myself writing into the summer and when I am not taking an english class.
One last thing I wanted to shine a light on was taking photos. I get REALLY embarrassed when taking photos of outfits. I hate thinking of what other people are thinking of me, whether good or bad thoughts. Since its not something people in Berkeley see everyday I get really shy, start laughing and tell whoever’s taking photos of me to put the camera down until they pass. I know that I shouldn’t care of what other people think, which I’m working on, but I do. I’ve gotten better since I’ve started, however stepping out of my comfort zone is something that I have most certainly not enjoyed 100% of the time, but have chosen to do. All in all, I can now say that I have only seen good things come from it thus far and glad I pushed myself.
I know I don’t have a bunch of followers, which honestly, yeah, I would be lying if I said I didn't want it to grow, but being able to have a space to do something that’s my own, and sharing it for the chance of lighting someone's day up, makes me excited to keep writing and posting for not only my own sake but yours too.
I hope you enjoyed reading this... If you did and want to give me some feedback, leave a comment either on here, on my instagram, or personally to me.
